Age is No Barrier for Actresses: Isha Koppikar

Offbeat : Ageing is not a hindrance for actresses; rather, it is a rich experience that adds depth to their performances. This is the belief of actress Isha Koppikar. According to her, the experiences and understanding gained in life become the greatest strength of any artist—especially for women, who can bring emotional depth to their performances with sincerity.

Citing the film Saand Ki Aankh as an example, Isha questioned why younger actresses are cast in roles meant for 50–60-year-old women, while talented and experienced senior actresses are often overlooked. Referring to a similar concern raised by Neena Gupta, Isha emphasized that true representation will only be achieved when women of all ages are seen on screen.

Isha believes that cinema should reflect society, and only when characters of all ages are authentically portrayed in films will audiences get to see stories that are real and emotionally relatable. She asserts that emotional maturity comes with age, which can make any character more authentic and powerful.

Isha is optimistic about the recent changes in the film industry. She observes that more films are now being made that feature older women in leading roles and present their stories in a strong and meaningful way. Additionally, there is a positive movement within the industry to provide a platform to people of all age groups and backgrounds. Isha sees this transformation as encouraging and believes that age should not be seen as a limitation, but as a valuable asset that enhances an artist’s talent.
