Offbeat News : On the 16th anniversary of the cult Bollywood film Kaminey, global star Priyanka Chopra shared an emotional note on social media, expressing gratitude to director Vishal Bhardwaj for reshaping her career.
Posting behind-the-scenes pictures and clips from the film, Priyanka recalled how the role of Sweety Bhope remains one of her closest to heart. “When I was shooting for Dostana in Miami, I got a call from Vishal sir. I never imagined he would cast me in his film, as I was then seen as a ‘commercial heroine.’ But he gave me Kaminey, and it turned out to be the turning point of my career,” she wrote.
Priyanka also revealed that Bhardwaj had promised to create something special for her after Kaminey—a promise fulfilled with 7 Khoon Maaf, which, she said, elevated her craft to a new level. “From him, I learned the importance of research and diving deep into a character. Kaminey gave me a new understanding of acting,” she added.
The film, starring Shahid Kapoor in a memorable double role, and supported by actors like Amole Gupte, was widely praised for its powerful storytelling, music, and performances. Priyanka also recalled meeting hairstylist Mubina Rattonsey on the sets, who later became one of her closest friends. “Sixteen years have passed, but those memories are still fresh,” she wrote.
Kaminey (2009) narrated the story of twin brothers—one with a stammer, the other with a lisp—whose lives take dramatic turns over the course of a single day. The film remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated cult hits.
Currently, Priyanka Chopra is active in both Hollywood and Bollywood. She was recently seen in Amazon Prime’s web series Citadel and the romantic drama Love Again.
