Trump Nominates Sergio Gor as US Ambassador to India — The Man Musk Called a "Snake"

World News In a move that has reignited political tensions, former US President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor as the next United States Ambassador to India. Gor, a longtime Republican strategist, is at the center of a bitter feud with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who publicly labeled him a “snake” in a post on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2025.

The tensions date back to Musk’s resignation in May from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DGE) during Trump’s election campaign. Musk had been closely involved with Trump’s campaign, appearing at multiple events. However, internal clashes with Gor, especially during cabinet meetings, reportedly led to Musk’s departure from the advisory role.

According to insiders, the disagreements primarily revolved around staff appointments and policy priorities. Musk reportedly scolded Gor during meetings, accusing him of undermining key decisions. Matters worsened when Gor allegedly handed Trump a dossier on Musk ally Jared Isaacman, highlighting Isaacman’s past political donations to Democrats. This led to the withdrawal of Isaacman’s nomination to head NASA.

Musk’s resignation came just as he was nearing the maximum term allowed for a special government advisor. Following his exit, he accused Gor of not completing the required security clearance paperwork necessary for his position. At the time, Gor was heading the Presidential Personnel Office, overseeing vetting of thousands of executive branch employees.

However, the White House denied any wrongdoing, stating that Gor had followed all required procedures and that his security clearance was active and valid.

With the nomination now public, political analysts expect further scrutiny of Gor’s appointment, especially given his complicated history with Musk and rising global attention on US-India diplomatic relations.
