Jharkhand News : A major mishap was averted late Tuesday night when a fire broke out in the labor room of Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital. Around 40 to 50 patients were present in the ward at the time. As soon as flames and smoke spread, panic gripped the ward and attendants rushed around in fear.
Investigations revealed that the fire started due to incense sticks lit by a patient’s attendant to repel mosquitoes. Sparks from the incense came in contact with an oxygen pipe, causing the fire to spread rapidly and filling the ward with smoke.
Hospital staff immediately swung into action, safely evacuating patients and controlling the blaze with fire extinguishers. The fire department was informed but by the time they arrived, the flames had already been brought under control. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
On receiving the news, MP Manish Jaiswal’s representative Ranjan Chaudhary reached the spot and expressed anger over the hospital management’s negligence. The hospital administration has assured stricter safety measures and special emergency response training for staff to prevent such incidents in the future.
