Jharkhand News : In a major success for security forces, a top Maoist leader carrying a bounty of ₹10 lakh was killed on Sunday during an anti-Naxal operation in Goilkera police station limits of West Singhbhum district.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan confirmed that Amit Hansda, alias Aptan, alias Chandramohan Hansda, was killed in a fierce encounter between Maoists and a joint team of Jharkhand Police and CRPF (CoBRA 209 battalion). He was a Zonal Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and had been active since 2008.
The encounter began after security forces launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the area. The Maoists, lying in ambush, opened fire, prompting retaliation from the forces. The exchange of fire lasted several hours. After the area was secured, Hansda’s body was recovered along with one SLR rifle, live cartridges, and other Maoist items.
Hansda was a notorious Maoist commander and a key figure in several major attacks across Jharkhand. He was involved in over 96 Naxal incidents, including the 2014 bank robbery in Chaibasa, the murder of policemen in Seraikela’s Phukdu, and the attack on former MLA Guru Charan Nayak in Goilkera, in which two security personnel were killed.
He was also the mastermind behind the 2022 Jhirkatang attack and arms loot. Hansda had reportedly been involved in the killing of over 12 police personnel and multiple cases of weapon looting across several districts.
All further proceedings are being carried out in accordance with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines, the SP added.
