‘The Bengal Files’ Opens with ₹1.75 Cr on Day One

Offbeat News : Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s much-discussed film The Bengal Files hit theatres this week but failed to deliver a strong opening. On its first day, the film collected around ₹1.75 crore, a modest figure compared to Agnihotri’s previous blockbuster The Kashmir Files, which had opened at over ₹3.5 crore and went on to cross the ₹250-crore mark.

Based on the 1946 Direct Action Day (Calcutta riots), the film narrates two parallel stories—one set in the present, where a CBI officer (played by Darshan Kumaar) investigates a missing girl case in West Bengal, and the other tracing events from the pre-Independence era, centered around Bharati (played by Simrat Kaur).

The ensemble cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Darshan Kumaar, Simrat Kaur, and Namashi Chakraborty.

At the box office, however, the film faces tough competition from Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, which made an impressive ₹12 crore on its opening day. Trade analysts suggest The Bengal Files may gain momentum over the weekend, but its start has been slow compared to expectations.
