Jharkhand News : In response to recent reports of adverse effects of cough syrup on children, the Ranchi district administration has taken swift action to safeguard public health. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri has directed the Civil Surgeon to issue necessary instructions to regulate the sale and prescription of cough syrups across the district.
As per the directive, no medical store will be allowed to sell cough syrup without a valid doctor’s prescription. Additionally, doctors have been advised to prescribe cough syrup only after carefully evaluating the child’s age and condition, ensuring that no adverse reactions occur.
The DC also warned that strict action will be taken against medical stores or doctors found violating these guidelines. Civil Surgeon Ranchi has been instructed to conduct quality and safety checks of various cough syrup brands available in the market by collecting samples for laboratory testing.
The district administration has also appealed to parents and guardians not to administer cough syrup to children without proper medical consultation, highlighting the potential health risks involved.
This proactive step by the Ranchi district administration comes amid growing concern over unsafe self-medication practices and aims to prevent any untoward incidents related to pediatric health.
