Heavy Rain Damages Crops in Ramgarh, Farmers Suffer Major Losses

Jharkhand News : Continuous heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Midhili has caused widespread crop damage in Ramgarh district, dealing a severe blow to local farmers. The district has been experiencing incessant rain for the past 72 hours, leading to flooding in agricultural fields and destruction of standing crops.

The worst-hit areas include Gola and Dulmi blocks, which are known for their agricultural production. Farmers reported that they could neither harvest crops from their fields nor protect those already taken to the markets, resulting in substantial financial losses.

According to official data, 56.3 mm of rainfall was recorded in Ramgarh in the past 24 hours. Meteorologist Shashikant Chaubey stated that the district may continue to face adverse weather conditions for the next two days. The continuous rain has severely affected both standing and harvested paddy crops, with waterlogging destroying crops ready for harvest. Crops left in fields for drying have started rotting due to moisture.

The cyclone’s impact has not only damaged kharif crops like paddy and arhar but also raised concerns over the upcoming rabi season. The germination of wheat, gram, lentil, pea, and mustard crops is being affected, and experts have warned of potential disease outbreaks.

Due to the persistent rainfall, there has been a significant drop in temperature, with minimum temperatures falling by 4–5 degrees Celsius.
