Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has significantly increased the examination fees for Matric and Intermediate exams for the year 2026. According to the notification issued by JAC, Matric exam fees have been raised by up to ₹340, while Intermediate fees have gone up by ₹290.
The council stated that there had been no major changes in examination fees for several years. However, due to an increased budget requirement this year, the fee structure has been revised. Overall, the fees have increased by nearly 25 percent.
Financial burden on over 7.5 lakh students
Every year, around 7.5 lakh students appear for the Matric and Intermediate examinations in the state. This includes about 4.25 lakh Matric and 3.25 lakh Intermediate students. The revised fee structure will directly impact these students and their parents financially.
Highest hike for private and independent candidates
Across all categories, the Matric fee has been increased by ₹240 without late fee and by ₹340 with late fee.

Regular boys’ fee has risen from ₹740 (2025) to ₹980 (2026).

Girls’ fee has increased from ₹940 to ₹1180.

Private candidates will also pay ₹1180, up from the previous ₹940.
Independent and private candidates will bear the highest impact of the fee hike. The fee for girls remains uniform across all categories. For boys, the fee for General and EWS categories remains the same. OBC, SC and ST students have also seen an increase in examination fees.
