Jharkhand News : There is good news for nightlife and party enthusiasts in Jharkhand. The state’s Excise Department is preparing to extend bar operating hours, allowing alcohol to be served until 4 AM. If implemented, the new system will come into effect from the upcoming financial year.
At present, bars in Jharkhand are permitted to operate only until midnight. Under the proposed policy, licensed bars will be allowed to remain open until early morning hours, providing relief to customers who often struggle to find legal alcohol service late at night.
According to sources, the extended timing will not be automatic. Bar operators will be required to obtain a separate license from the Excise Department to serve alcohol until 4 AM. The department has emphasized that strict conditions will be attached to this special license to ensure law and order, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Officials stated that the proposed rules include stringent monitoring mechanisms. Bars violating operational guidelines, safety norms, or noise regulations will face heavy penalties. In cases of serious violations, licenses may be suspended or permanently cancelled.
The move is expected to boost the hospitality and nightlife industry in the state, particularly in urban centers like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. Industry stakeholders believe that extended bar hours could also increase government revenue through higher excise collections.
However, the proposal has also sparked discussions around public safety and social impact. The Excise Department has clarified that law enforcement coordination, security arrangements, and responsible alcohol service will be mandatory under the new framework.
The final decision is likely to be announced after administrative approvals and stakeholder consultations. If cleared, Jharkhand will join a growing list of states offering extended nightlife hours under regulated conditions.
