Jharkhand News : The drive to remove illegal encroachments inside the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) campus continued on Tuesday, with authorities demolishing seven residential structures. Three double-storey houses were completely razed using bulldozers, while a four-storey apartment is currently being partially dismantled with heavy hammers.
According to officials associated with the demolition team, the upper two floors of the four-storey apartment are being taken down manually, while the lower two floors will be demolished using bulldozers. Another four-storey apartment is also slated for demolition, although residents have approached the Supreme Court, where the matter is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday. The apartment owner stated that if a stay order is granted, legal action will be pursued against those responsible.
On Tuesday, the residence of Dr. I.D. Chaudhary was completely demolished, along with two neighbouring houses. In the Doctors’ Colony area, several RIMS quarters that were being occupied illegally were vacated and sealed by the administration.
Families shift belongings amid demolition
Families whose houses were demolished or marked for demolition began shifting their belongings early in the morning. Throughout the day, residents were seen transporting household items in small vehicles to alternative locations. Boundary walls in several areas were also cut and marked as part of the encroachment removal process.
Young footballer’s house also demolished
Among those affected was the house of Arvind Gudiya, an under-19 footballer who had recently returned after leading Jharkhand to victory in a national championship. Arvind said he learned upon returning home that his house would be demolished as part of the encroachment drive. He became emotional while recounting that he had met the Chief Minister after the win, who had encouraged him to aim higher. “Now, without a home, it feels difficult to even think about continuing my sports journey,” he said.
Authorities stated that the encroachment removal drive will continue in the coming days to reclaim RIMS land and ensure proper use of institutional property.
