36 acres of Ranchi lake land missing, municipal probe begins

Jharkhand News : A major portion of land around Swami Vivekananda Sarovar, a prominent lake in Ranchi, has gone missing, sparking concern. A municipal investigation revealed that illegal encroachments have taken over land surrounding the lake.

Official records show that the lake and its surrounding area cover 53 acres under the municipal corporation, of which only 17 acres still hold water. This indicates that 36 acres of the lake land are unaccounted for. The issue came to light when the municipality started digitalizing property records.

Historically, the lake was dug 180 years ago, covering 52 acres, and a solid embankment was constructed in 1845 by Kunwar Shrinath. Now, the municipal corporation plans detailed measurement of the 53-acre area using drone mapping and modern technology to identify illegal encroachments.

Under the supervision of the municipal deputy administrator, a special campaign will start on Monday. The investigation will check the legality of all constructions, and necessary action will be taken against unauthorized occupation.
