Big Relief for Jharia Mine Fire Evacuees, Government Announces Flats in Belgaria Township

Jharkhand News : The central government has announced major relief for families displaced due to the Jharia coal mine fire in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district. Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday said that families affected by the long-burning mine fire will be provided flats on lease in Belgaria Township.

Addressing a programme at Belgaria Township, the minister said that multiple generations of displaced families can live in these flats, though the properties cannot be sold. The move aims to ensure long-term, secure housing for those forced to leave unsafe areas due to underground fires and land subsidence.

The minister also inaugurated several development projects at Belgaria Township, which has been developed by the Jharia Rehabilitation Development Authority (JRDA) for the resettlement of families affected by mine fires and those living in subsidence-prone zones.

Reddy said the central and state governments are fully committed to relocating residents from hazardous areas to safer locations. The district administration, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), and JRDA are working continuously to safeguard the interests of affected residents.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviews the situation in fire-affected areas of Jharia every month. According to the minister, the core objective of the Jharia Master Plan and the development of Belgaria Township is to ensure residents’ safety and improve their quality of life.
