Jharkhand News : Jharkhand continues to reel under intense cold conditions, with no relief for residents even on Monday. Several districts remain under the grip of cold wave–like conditions. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at McCluskieganj in Ranchi district, where the mercury dipped to 0.9 degrees Celsius. The temperature was measured by an instrument installed at Gordon Guest House.
In Ranchi district, Kanke recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi city registered 7.2 degrees Celsius. Lohardaga recorded a minimum of 3.1 degrees, Khunti 5 degrees, and Gumla 4.9 degrees Celsius, reflecting the widespread impact of the cold spell.

According to Abhishek Anand, scientist at the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, moderate fog is expected to persist during morning hours across Ranchi and other parts of the state over the next 24 hours. However, from Wednesday onward, a gradual rise in minimum temperatures is likely, bringing slight relief from the cold. The intensity of the cold wave is also expected to reduce.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog on Wednesday and Thursday in 12 districts — Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Jamtara, Godda and Sahibganj. Morning chill is expected to continue in Ranchi, Ramgarh, Khunti, Gumla and Simdega, though conditions may improve as the sun rises.
✈️ Flights Disrupted Due to Fog
Dense fog also disrupted flight operations at Ranchi Airport on Monday. Four IndiGo flights were cancelled, including two on the Kolkata–Ranchi route, one Delhi–Ranchi flight and one Patna–Ranchi service. In addition, six flights were delayed by one to three hours, affecting routes such as Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.
🌡️ Dhanbad Sees Slight Rise in Temperature
In Dhanbad, the minimum temperature has risen by nearly three degrees over the past 48 hours, reaching 11 degrees Celsius. Despite the increase, cold conditions persist. Chilly winds during the day and intensified cold during evenings and nights continue to trouble residents. On Monday, the maximum temperature stood at 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 11 degrees.
