Jharkhand News : A shocking incident has come to light from Jharkhand’s Palamu district, where a woman was allegedly murdered by her husband to marry his lover. The body of the victim was recovered from a pit on Thursday in Durauna Tola of Tukbera village under Nawa Bazar Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Kumari, wife of Ranjit Mehta. The victim’s family alleged that Ranjit killed Priyanka so that he could marry another woman with whom he was having an affair, and later buried her body in a pit to destroy evidence.
According to family members, Priyanka, daughter of Dwarika Mehta of Darua Tisibar in the Pandu area, was married to Ranjit Mehta of Bhukhla village in Vishrampur in 2019. Even before the marriage, Ranjit was reportedly involved in a love affair with a woman from Tukbera village. After marriage, Priyanka was frequently subjected to physical abuse over this issue.
Family members said they received information two days ago that Priyanka had been murdered and her body buried. Following this, the matter was reported to the police.
Confirming the incident, Sanjay Kumar, officer-in-charge of Nawa Bazar police station, said that the victim’s family had earlier lodged a missing person report at Vishrampur Police Station. During the search operation, the body was recovered from the pit on Thursday.
Police said the pit was dug using a JCB machine. The owner of the machine told investigators that he was asked to dig the pit on the pretext of draining water. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
So far, no arrests have been made in the case. Police officials said all allegations made by the victim’s family are being thoroughly examined and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
