When Will Jharkhand Civic Body Elections Be Held? Timeline Almost Final, Notification on January 14

Jharkhand News : The schedule for Jharkhand municipal (urban local body) elections is almost finalized. The elections are likely to be held by the end of February or in the first week of March. The official notification may be issued after January 14. The elections will be conducted in a single phase through ballot papers.

To review preparations, the Jharkhand State Election Commission has convened a video conference meeting on January 8 with all districts. The meeting will be attended by the state DGP, Home Secretary, Urban Development Secretary, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and other senior officials.

🔹 Voting Through Ballot Paper

For the first time in Jharkhand’s municipal elections, ballot papers will be used instead of EVMs.

  • Pink ballot paper: Mayor and Chairperson posts

  • White ballot paper: Councillor posts

  • The Election Commission has finalized 150 free election symbols, divided into three categories

Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Medininagar, Giridih, Deoghar, Chas, Adityapur and Mango

🔹 Municipal Council Elections

Garhwa, Bishrampur, Chaibasa, Jhumri Telaiya, Chakradharpur, Chatra, Chirkunda, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, Gumla, Jugsalai, Kapali, Lohardaga, Simdega, Madhupur, Ramgarh, Sahibganj, Phusro and Mihijam

🔹 Nagar Panchayat Elections

Banshidhar Nagar, Majhiaon, Hussainabad, Hariharganj, Chhatarpur, Latehar, Koderma, Domchanch, Barki Saraiya, Dhanwar, Mahagama, Rajmahal, Barharwa, Basukinath, Jamtara, Bundu, Khunti, Saraikela and Chakulia

🔹 Review Meeting on January 8

Election Commission Secretary Radheshyam Prasad said that review meetings are held before announcing elections. The January 8 video conference will focus on:

  • Election preparedness

  • Deployment of security forces

  • Polling station arrangements

  • Law and order and other logistical issues
