Parents to Attend School with Children in Jamshedpur Literacy Drive

Jharkhand News : In a unique initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots education, parents will now attend school alongside their children in government schools across Jamshedpur. From the academic session 2026–27, regular classes will be conducted for parents under the Sakshar Bharat Mission and HULAS programme.

As per the plan, parents will be taught for one hour daily from Monday to Saturday, parallel to students’ school hours. The programme focuses on improving basic literacy and numeracy among illiterate guardians.

📝 Identification of Illiterate Parents Underway

Teachers have begun preparing lists of illiterate parents within their respective school catchment areas. Each government school has been instructed to identify at least 15 parents who are unable to read or write. Separate classrooms will be organized for parents during regular school hours.

📚 What Parents Will Learn

During these sessions, parents will be taught:

The programme is inclusive and will involve both mothers and fathers. Teachers will conduct these classes within school hours, ensuring minimal disruption to regular academic activities.

🧑‍🏫 Evaluation and Certification

To assess learning outcomes, parents will appear for periodic tests. At the end of the academic session, examinations will be conducted and top-performing parents will be felicitated for their achievements.

🏫 Programme to Cover All Government Schools

The initiative will be implemented across all primary, middle, and high schools in the district. Parent classes will begin after students’ annual examinations and will run alongside the new academic session starting in April 2026.

Education officials believe that educating parents will not only boost their confidence but also create a positive learning environment at home, ultimately improving students’ academic performance.
