Jharkhand News : Jharkhand is reeling under an intense cold wave and dense fog, making Wednesday the coldest day of the season so far. Minimum temperatures dropped below 5°C in four districts, including Khunti. In McCluskieganj, near Ranchi, the mercury plunged to 0.7°C, causing dew droplets to freeze and turn into layers of frost, resembling snowfall.
According to the weather department, severe cold conditions will continue for the next two days. A yellow alert has been issued for Ranchi, Khunti, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Lohardaga, and Gumla, warning of cold wave and cold day conditions.
🔹 Fields and Vehicles Covered in Frost
Early Wednesday morning, areas around Rana Country Cottage in McCluskieganj witnessed frozen dew covering fields, straw, rooftops, and vehicles, giving the landscape a white blanket-like appearance. In the Chinatod area, frost formed thick layers over agricultural land, severely affecting daily life.
In Kanke, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.0°C.
🔹 Dense Fog Impacts Visibility and Flights
Several districts experienced dense fog, with Palamu recording the lowest visibility at 300 metres. Deoghar saw visibility drop to 600 metres, while Ranchi remained relatively clearer in the morning hours.
Due to foggy conditions, IndiGo flights on Kolkata–Ranchi and Pune–Ranchi routes were delayed by nearly one hour.
🔹 Weather Outlook
The weather department stated that icy winds and biting cold will continue over the next two days, with cold day conditions likely at isolated places.
However, a change in weather is expected after two days, which may lead to a rise of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures.
