Ranchi Mob Lynching: Youth Beaten to Death Over Theft Suspicion, 1 Arrested

Jharkhand News : A shocking mob-lynching incident has been reported from Jharkhand’s capital. In Chaya village under Budhmu police station limits, villagers allegedly beat a युवक named Vicky Nayak to death on suspicion of stealing a motor pump. The assault reportedly happened in front of his family. Another suspected person was allegedly let off after a minor beating.

Police have registered an FIR against seven named accused and several unidentified persons. One of the named accused, Kameshwar Yadav, has been arrested. He is said to be a representative of Panchayat Samiti member Ruhi Devi.

What triggered the violence

According to the information available, a motor pump was stolen from the wells of Kameshwar Yadav and Vishnu Yadav about eight days ago. Four days later, Kameshwar’s pump was found kept near his well, but Vishnu’s pump was not recovered. Notably, no police complaint/FIR was filed at the time of theft.

Mother’s statement

Vicky’s mother Bhutki Devi alleged that Kameshwar Yadav came to their house on Thursday night and demanded that Vicky admit the theft in a village meeting scheduled for Friday morning. On Friday, Vicky was allegedly taken on a bike by two men and pressured to confess. When he denied involvement, he was allegedly assaulted brutally.

Death while being referred

The family took him to Budhmu CHC, from where he was referred to RIMS, but he died on the way, police said.

Police action

Budhmu police confirmed that one accused has been arrested, and others are being questioned. Investigation is ongoing.
