Hyena Enters School in Ranchi’s Silli; 100 Students Safe, Animal Rescued

Jharkhand News : Panic gripped Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Tuesday morning after a hyena entered a school campus in Silli block. The incident took place in Patrahatu village at Adarsh High School, where classes were underway and more than 100 students were present at the time. Despite the scare, all children remained safe.

Door Locked, Classes Disrupted Briefly

Locals said the animal was spotted early in the morning, triggering chaos in the area. Hearing the noise, the hyena ran into a room inside the school building. Residents and staff quickly locked the door from outside and informed the Forest Department, preventing the animal from moving into the main school areas. Classes were temporarily disrupted during the incident.

Birsa Biological Park Team Conducts Rescue

According to Silli in-charge forest officer J.P. Sahu, a specialist rescue team was called from Ranchi. A unit from Birsa Biological Park, Ormanjhi reached the spot around 10 am and, after nearly three hours of effort, safely captured the hyena and took it away.

Entered an Old Room Not Used for Teaching

School in-charge headmaster Pawan Kumar Singh said the hyena entered the campus around 9:15 am when nearly 100 students were inside classrooms. The animal went straight into an old room where classes are not conducted, which helped prevent any direct contact with children.

Forest Department Appeal

The Forest Department urged residents to avoid harming wild animals and to immediately alert officials if such sightings occur, so that rescue operations can be carried out safely.
