Saranda Forest Encounter in Chaibasa: Security Forces Kill Several Maoists

Naxal Encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur, Two Jawans Injured, Condition Stable

Jharkhand News : A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and CPI (Maoist) insurgents in Jharkhand’s Saranda forest on Thursday morning. Initial reports suggest that several Maoists were killed in the gunfight. The incident took place under the Chotanagra police station area in Chaibasa district.

According to sources, senior officials of the CRPF and Jharkhand Police received specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in the dense forest region of Saranda. Acting on the tip-off, a joint team comprising CoBRA commandos, Jharkhand Jaguar and district police launched a search operation in the area.

As the forces moved closer, the Maoists allegedly opened indiscriminate fire after sensing they were surrounded. Security personnel retaliated, leading to a prolonged exchange of fire. Reports indicate that while some insurgents managed to escape using the cover of dense forest, the security forces gained the upper hand.

A massive combing and search operation is currently underway in and around the encounter site to track down any remaining suspects and recover arms, ammunition or other materials.

Maoist Presence in Saranda-Kolhan Region

Security agencies have repeatedly flagged the Saranda and Kolhan belt as a sensitive area where several senior Maoist leaders and armed squads are believed to be active. Authorities say intensified operations are continuing to weaken the insurgent network in the region.
