Jharkhand News : A startling picture of absenteeism has emerged from Jharkhand’s public health system. As many as 4,468 doctors and employees did not report for duty even for a single day in January, registering zero attendance for all 31 days. The finding comes from an analysis of the Health Department’s ACVMS attendance portal.
From Medical Colleges to District Hospitals
Statewide data show 28,781 doctors and staff registered on the portal. Of these:
-
Excluding medical colleges, 405 of 2,305 doctors (18%) were absent throughout January.
-
3,656 of 24,246 employees (15%) also recorded zero attendance.
-
Even across the state’s six medical colleges, 405 of 2,240 doctors and staff were absent for the entire month.
Officials noted that several personnel are deliberately avoiding registration on the attendance portal to escape monitoring.
“No Attendance, No Pay”
In response, the Jharkhand Health Department is preparing to link salary payments directly to attendance. The Additional Chief Secretary said salaries will be paid only for the days attendance is recorded. Registration on the portal will be made mandatory, enabling real-time monitoring of who reports where and when.
Worst Performance at Hazaribagh Medical College
The analysis revealed that (excluding medical colleges) only 31% of employees and 24% of doctors had attendance above 75% in January. SBMCH, Hazaribagh, emerged as the worst performer with particularly poor attendance.
Crackdown Under Ayushman Scheme
Separately, authorities have tightened scrutiny under the Ayushman Bharat–Mukhyamantri Abua Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. Hospitals reporting readmissions within 30 days may face action. The Jharkhand State Arogya Society (JASAS) has identified facilities and treatment packages with high readmission rates and directed strict adherence to treatment protocols, follow-up, and quality standards.
Bottom line: Jharkhand is set to enforce stricter accountability in healthcare—attendance will now directly determine pay, signaling a hard line against absenteeism.
