Jharkhand News : Three youths were injured after unidentified assailants opened fire near Shivala Ghat on the banks of the Koel River under the Town Police Station limits in Medininagar, Palamu district, on Wednesday night. Two of the injured were admitted to a private hospital, while the third reportedly sought treatment elsewhere.
The injured have been identified as Dinesh Kumar (18) and Nikhil Kumar (25), both residents of Shastri Nagar (Bhatti Mohalla), Medininagar, and Prakash Kumar (20), a resident of Chainpur.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 8:40 p.m., when more than half a dozen youths were sitting near Shivala Ghat. Police said five to six armed men suddenly arrived, allegedly abused the group, and then opened indiscriminate fire from the road and nearby steps leading to the river.
As panic spread, the youths tried to flee. Dinesh Kumar sustained a bullet injury to the abdomen, Nikhil Kumar was shot in the waist and arm, while Prakash Kumar suffered a bullet injury to his hand. Dinesh and Nikhil were rushed to Dr. Rahul Agrawal’s Hospital for treatment. The location where Prakash is receiving treatment has not yet been confirmed.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chiranjeev Mandal reached the hospital soon after receiving information about the incident and confirmed that an investigation had been launched. He said police are examining the case from all angles and that the circumstances surrounding the firing will be clarified after the investigation.
A police team led by SI Shriram Sharma also visited the spot. Officers are questioning local residents, collecting evidence, and working to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the firing. Initial indications suggest the incident may have stemmed from a personal rivalry, though police have not confirmed the exact reason.
The incident has created panic in Medininagar and comes amid growing concerns over law and order in Palamu due to a series of recent violent incidents.
Earlier on the same day, in Karakat Banduwa village under the Chainpur Police Station area, armed assailants allegedly opened fire and attacked members of a family with knives during an attempted abduction of a young woman. Her father Suleman Mian, mother Shahina Bibi, and brother Maqbool Mian were seriously injured. Police said Maqbool Mian later died while being taken to Ranchi for advanced treatment.
