Jharkhand News : An alleged assault on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker inside the MGM Hospital premises has triggered a political row in East Singhbhum. Following the incident, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu visited the residence of the injured BJP worker, Manish Sharma, on Saturday night and assured him of justice. She also urged the police to conduct a fair investigation and take strict action against the Home Guard personnel allegedly involved.
According to the victim’s family, Manish Sharma, a resident of Bhuiyandih Lakdi Taal and a BJP booth-level worker, had gone to MGM Hospital on Saturday to inquire about his sister’s treatment. The family alleged that an argument broke out after eight to ten Home Guard personnel on duty questioned the purpose of his visit. They further claimed that the personnel assaulted Sharma with batons.
Sharma alleged that he tried to flee to save himself, but the Home Guard personnel caught him and continued to beat him. He also claimed that most of the personnel were not wearing nameplates, making it difficult to identify those involved.
After receiving information about the incident, BJP leader and MLA representative Gunjan Yadav also reached the hospital and met the victim. He alleged that when an attempt was made to record the incident on a mobile phone, the device was snatched and the video footage was deleted. The matter was subsequently reported to Patamda Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dayanand Kumar and the MGM police station.
Police have seized a broken baton from the spot, conducted the victim’s medical examination, and registered an FIR against the Home Guard personnel concerned based on Sharma’s written complaint. An investigation is currently underway.
After returning from an organisational meeting in Ranchi, MLA Purnima Sahu went directly to Sharma’s residence. She spoke with DSP Dayanand Kumar over the phone, demanding strict action and suspension of all Home Guard personnel found involved in the incident. She also spoke to the Superintendent of MGM Hospital and requested proper medical care for Kajal Pradhan, who is currently admitted to the hospital.
Calling the alleged incident “extremely serious,” Sahu said that such conduct by security personnel at a sensitive public institution like a hospital is unacceptable. She stressed the need for a fair investigation and stringent action against those found guilty to prevent similar incidents in the future and maintain public confidence in law enforcement.
