Jharkhand News : The families of two people who lost their lives in separate elephant attacks in April have been provided with ex-gratia compensation of ₹4 lakh each by the Forest Department.
The compensation cheques were handed over during a programme held at the Jamu Panchayat Bhavan in Markacho block. Forest Range Officer Ravindra Kumar, local public representatives, and former Zila Parishad Chairperson Shalini Gupta were present on the occasion.
The beneficiaries include the family of Sita Devi, a resident of Harladih village under Jamu Panchayat in Markacho police station limits, and the family of Upendra Kumar of Shivam Hotel in Jainagar, both of whom died in separate elephant attacks earlier this year.
Speaking at the event, Shalini Gupta expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged the Forest Department to implement effective measures to prevent human-elephant conflict. She also assured the affected families of all possible support.
Forest Department officials offered their condolences and said efforts would be intensified to prevent such incidents in the future by strengthening village-level monitoring and increasing public awareness in elephant-prone areas.
