Ranchi Administration Issues New Rules for Rallies, Protests and Public Events

Jharkhand News : Organisers planning protests, demonstrations, gheraos, processions, rallies or public meetings in Ranchi will now have to obtain prior permission from the administration. The Ranchi district administration issued the new guidelines on Sunday.

According to the administration, organisers of public events will have to follow the prescribed procedure of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Ranchi Sadar or Bundu. Necessary information about the proposed programme must be submitted to the administration in advance.

Route, Timing and Expected Crowd Details Required

Organisers of rallies and processions will have to provide details of the proposed route, date of the event, starting and ending times, and the expected number of participants.

The administration may also seek information about key persons expected to participate in the programme, if required.

The district administration said organisers must provide all necessary information about public events in advance under the prescribed procedure.

Unannounced Events Affect Traffic and Public Movement

According to the district administration, protests, demonstrations, processions and rallies are being organised at several locations without prior information. Such events can affect traffic and create difficulties for members of the public.

The administration said that unplanned public gatherings may also create concerns related to law and order and public safety.

Peaceful Protest Is a Constitutional Right

The administration clarified that holding peaceful protests and demonstrations is a constitutional right of citizens. However, such activities must be carried out in accordance with the law while considering public order, safety, traffic management and the rights of others.

The administration also made it clear that the requirement for prior permission is not intended to prevent peaceful and democratic programmes. The objective is to ensure the safety of participants and enable better management of law and order and traffic.

Appeal to Political Groups, Students and Citizens

The district administration has appealed to political parties, social organisations, institutions and the general public to follow the prescribed rules for organising public programmes.

Organisers have been asked to submit necessary information about their events on time and cooperate with the administration in maintaining traffic flow and law and order.

Students and other citizens have also been advised to check whether an event has the required permission and to understand the conditions set by the administration before participating.

The administration urged people not to act on rumours or misleading information that could cause inconvenience to the public or affect law and order.
