Jharkhand News : The process of identifying and removing ineligible ration beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act is underway in Jharkhand. Of around 6.30 lakh registered cardholders under verification, the government has so far identified 1.63 lakh people who were allegedly receiving government ration despite not meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria.
According to the government, around 26 per cent of the target has been achieved within the stipulated timeframe. The state has maintained that free or subsidised ration is meant only for people who are genuinely eligible under the scheme.
Beneficiaries Not Taking Ration Under Scrutiny
The verification process includes people who have not collected their ration entitlement for the past six months. Authorities are also examining employed individuals and those whose salaries include Provident Fund deductions but who were still receiving benefits under the Garib Kalyan scheme.
A postal service verification exercise has also identified 808 suspicious names.
The government has said that names falling under the ineligible categories are being removed from the ration list automatically or after verification.
Digital Tracking System Used for Verification
The department has developed a special tracking system to identify ineligible beneficiaries. The system is being used to digitally examine recent ration collection records and financial details of cardholders.
The verification process is aimed at identifying people who continue to receive government ration despite not meeting the eligibility requirements.
One Nation One Ration Card System Being Promoted
The government is also promoting the One Nation One Ration Card system to ensure greater convenience for genuine beneficiaries.
Under the system, eligible beneficiaries can collect foodgrains from government ration shops in any part of the country.
The government’s objective is to ensure that entitled beneficiaries receive their full benefits while preventing fraud and ensuring that government ration reaches those who genuinely need it.
