Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand government has gone into alert mode following the flood situation in Nepal. The Sahibganj district administration is closely monitoring the situation as water levels in the Ganga are expected to rise further due to increased flow in its tributaries, including the Gandak and Kosi rivers.
The district administration is continuously visiting the Diara areas and urging people to move to safer locations. Relief centres have been set up for residents and their livestock, with food, drinking water and medicines being made available.
Ganga Erosion Continues in Kargil Diara
Erosion along the Ganga has intensified in Kargil Diara under the Sadar block. Several houses have already been swept away by the river.
The Diara region has started getting inundated, forcing many residents to move towards safer places.
Ganga Flows 58 cm Above Danger Level
On Thursday, the Ganga was flowing 58 cm above its danger mark of 27.25 metres. At 6 am, the river’s water level had reached 27.85 metres.
Although the pace of the rise in the Ganga’s water level has slowed slightly, water from Nepal is moving towards Bihar. If the flow into the Ganga increases further, Sahibganj may also face its impact.
The situation could also affect areas along the West Bengal border adjoining Sahibganj.
Administration Appeals for Evacuation
The district administration is making public announcements across the Diara areas and urging people to move to safer locations to prevent loss of life and property.
Sadar SDO Amar Jan Aind said that residents are being requested through public announcements to return to safer places. The administration has also set up centres to accommodate people affected by the flood situation.
