Jharkhand News : Jharkhand is witnessing continuous rainfall, with the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, issuing a weather alert for Wednesday, September 2. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra and Latehar, while several parts of the state may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The weather department has also warned of strong winds reaching 30-40 kmph in several areas. Continuous rainfall has already disrupted normal life in several districts, with rising water levels, flooded villages and rain-related accidents reported.
Mandal Dam Water Level Rises, Three Villages Flooded
Continuous rainfall in Latehar district and surrounding areas has caused the water level of Mandal Dam to rise. An attempt was made to open the dam gates, but they could not be opened.
The gates reportedly failed to open because garbage had become stuck in them. As the water level continued to rise, water entered the nearby villages of Kutku, Bhajna and Kura.
Around 36 families have been affected, with water entering their homes and damaging household belongings. The affected families have moved to higher ground and are staying there for safety.
Youth Dies While Trying to Rescue Bull
A 24-year-old man, Soma Sundi, died after being swept away by strong currents in a drain in Chaibasa district. He was a resident of Sankosai village under the Muffasil police station area.
According to information available, Sundi was near a drain close to Chidiya Pahadi village in Jhinkpani when he saw a bull being swept away by the strong current. He jumped into the drain to rescue the animal and managed to bring the bull out, but was himself swept away.
Villagers later recovered his body and informed the police. Police took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination. The incident took place on September 1.
Usri River Swells in Giridih
Continuous rainfall has affected normal life in Giridih district. Waterlogging on roads has made commuting difficult, while people’s daily activities have also been disrupted.
The water level of the Usri River, which passes through the district, has risen rapidly and the river is now flowing in spate. While people are reaching the river to watch the strong current, residents of nearby villages are worried that the rising water could reach their homes.
Three Mud Houses Collapse in Bokaro
Bokaro district has been receiving continuous rainfall for the past two days. Three mud houses collapsed in Gwalatoli under Pindrajore panchayat of Chas block.
The houses belonged to Ashok Gop, Sameer Gop and Praful Ghatwar. All household belongings were reportedly destroyed after the houses collapsed.
According to information, the three families are spending their days and nights under plastic sheets. They have covered one corner of their homes with plastic to protect themselves from the rain.
Pregnant Woman Dies After Roof Collapse in Jamtara
A house roof collapsed due to rainfall in Charkpani village under the Narayanpur police station area of Jamtara district. A woman inside the house died in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Lilawati Devi, who was pregnant. She was trapped under the debris after the roof collapsed.
Villagers managed to remove the debris and rescue her. Considering her critical condition, they took her to a hospital in Dhanbad, where doctors declared her dead.
Four Gates of Patratu Dam Opened
The water level of Patratu Dam has also increased following continuous rainfall. To ensure the safety of the dam and regulate the water level, the management has opened gates 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Around 1,330 cusecs of water per hour is currently being released through the four gates. Officials are continuously monitoring the dam’s water level and overall situation.
Following the release of water, residents of low-lying areas have been advised not to unnecessarily venture near rivers, drains and other water channels. People have also been urged to remain alert and follow administrative instructions if the water level rises further.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, several parts of Jharkhand may receive light to moderate rainfall on September 2. The sky is likely to remain cloudy, with thunderstorms and lightning possible at several places.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in some parts of the state on September 3. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur, along with the possibility of lightning.
From September 4 to 7, partly cloudy conditions are expected across the state. Some areas may receive light to moderate rain or thunderstorms during this period, but no special alert has been issued.
Ranchi Weather: Cloudy Sky and Rain Forecast
The capital Ranchi is likely to remain cloudy throughout the day on September 2. Light to moderate rain may occur two or more times in the city and surrounding areas.
Ranchi is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 28°C and a minimum temperature of 23°C. From September 3 to 7, cloudy conditions are likely to continue, with one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms. The maximum temperature may gradually rise to around 30°C.
The Meteorological Centre has advised people to avoid open fields, trees and electricity poles during thunderstorms and lightning. Residents have been urged to take shelter in safe and permanent structures during lightning activity.
