Ramgarh: Leaders of the Kurmi community in Dulmi block have strongly reacted to reports that thousands of Kurmi/Kudmi community members from Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal were allegedly confined at Ambedkar Bhavan by Delhi Police while they were in the national capital to participate in the Anyay Diwas programme at Jantar Mantar.
Brahmadev Mahto, Sudhir Manglesh and Mithilesh Mahto alleged that the government was trying to suppress the long-standing and legitimate demands of the Kurmi community.
Questions Raised Over Democratic Rights
The leaders said that preventing members of the community from peacefully raising their voice and demanding their rights in the country’s capital raises serious questions about democratic rights.
They said that thousands of Kurmi community members from Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal had travelled to Delhi to peacefully present their demands.
Demand for Dialogue With Community Representatives
Brahmadev Mahto, Sudhir Manglesh and Mithilesh Mahto said that instead of suppressing the voice of the community, the government should hold dialogue with its representatives and seriously consider their demands.
They said the Kurmi community would continue its struggle for its rights through democratic and peaceful means.
Demand for Immediate Release
The leaders demanded the immediate release of the community members who were reportedly being held at Ambedkar Bhavan and said they should be allowed to participate in the peaceful programme.
They reiterated that the Kurmi community would continue to raise its long-standing demands through democratic and peaceful means.
