Jamshedpur : Tata Power Solaroof, part of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has crossed the milestone of 5 lakh rooftop solar installations across India. The company completed 5,19,673 installations as of July 31, 2026, accounting for a 14% market share, and has set a target of reaching 30 lakh installations by 2029.
The milestone marks a significant step in the growing adoption of distributed renewable energy across India’s residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Tata Power Solaroof is expanding access to rooftop solar through its nationwide network of more than 700 channel partners and 250 authorised service partners.
CRISIL has recognised Tata Power Solaroof as India’s No. 1 rooftop solar player for 12 consecutive years, reflecting the company’s scale, execution capabilities and continued presence in the sector.
Expanding Rooftop Solar Access
With rooftop solar emerging as an increasingly attractive option for reducing electricity costs and improving energy resilience, the company is strengthening its support network across the country.
The network provides localised assistance throughout the customer journey, including consultation, system design, installation, commissioning and after-sales service.
Under its ‘Quality Lifelong’ promise, Tata Power Solaroof offers high-efficiency solar modules along with warranties, financing options, insurance protection and service support. Its solar modules come with 25/30-year performance warranties, while systems are backed by a minimum five-year warranty.
The company’s service model includes an initial response to customer service requests within two hours and resolution within 48 hours.
Ghar Ghar Solar Initiative Expands
Tata Power Solaroof continues to support the Government of India’s rooftop solar ambitions through its flagship ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative, aligned with the objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Launched in 2024, the initiative has expanded across 11 states and one Union Territory—Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Bihar—collectively covering a population of more than 90 crore.
Through awareness campaigns, on-ground engagement and simplified access to rooftop solar solutions, the initiative aims to help consumers understand the economic and environmental benefits of generating their own clean electricity.
The programme also seeks to address adoption barriers through financing solutions and an expanding service ecosystem.
Over ₹8,500 Crore Solar Financing Facilitated
To make rooftop solar more accessible, Tata Power Solaroof offers financing through leading banks and NBFCs. Under the Special Financing Scheme introduced through the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative, eligible residential consumers can access financing with down-payment options as low as zero.
The scheme is aimed at helping households address upfront costs, particularly those unable to meet the 10% down-payment requirement under the PM Surya Ghar financing framework.
For Commercial and Industrial customers, the company provides financing solutions in partnership with PSUs and NBFCs, including its SunSmart Flexi EMI Scheme. The ‘Pay As You Save’ model is designed to align repayments with projected solar energy generation.
Tata Power Solaroof has so far facilitated more than ₹8,500 crore in financing through a network of over 25 financing partners, helping consumers and businesses access rooftop solar solutions.
Focus on Commercial and Industrial Customers
The company is also expanding its presence in the Commercial and Industrial segment, serving enterprises across sectors such as textiles, steel, cold storage, information technology, hospitality, biotechnology, FMCG, consumer durables, automotive, data centres and tea estates.
Its offerings include customised system design, engineering, installation, financing and post-installation support. These solutions are designed to help businesses reduce dependence on conventional power, improve energy economics and advance their sustainability objectives.
Battery Storage for Energy Beyond Sunlight Hours
Tata Power has also expanded its portfolio to include battery energy storage solutions under the Tata Power Battery Storage brand.
By combining rooftop solar with battery storage, consumers can store excess solar power generated during the day and use it when sunlight is unavailable. This can improve the utilisation of clean energy, enhance energy resilience and reduce dependence on grid power.
For residential customers, the Mysine portfolio offers battery storage systems ranging from 5 kWh to 40 kWh. These systems allow homeowners to store surplus solar generation for use during evenings, nights or periods of low sunlight.
For Commercial and Industrial customers, the PowerHub portfolio offers scalable battery energy storage solutions ranging from 60 kWh to 5 MWh, with further scalability based on specific operational and load requirements.
Together, rooftop solar and battery storage provide an integrated clean energy ecosystem that enables consumers to generate, store, manage and use clean power according to their energy requirements.
