Ranchi: The Dayanand Auditorium of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, came alive with melodious performances as the school organised the Senior Secondary Inter-House Music Singing Competition for students of Classes 11 and 12.
The competition began with soulful classical and semi-classical music, followed by ghazal and bhajan performances that created a spiritual and captivating atmosphere. The students presented challenging and timeless compositions such as “Piya To Se Naina Laagi,” “Raag Bihag,” “Baat Niharu Ghanshyam,” and “Mohe Rang Do Laal,” winning loud applause from the audience.
Classical and Semi-Classical Performances Impress Audience
The participants displayed their singing talent, understanding of rhythm and confidence on stage through their performances. The auditorium resonated with applause as students presented the compositions with melody, precision and musical expression.
Sonali Prasad and Manohar Kumar Pathak, distinguished personalities from the field of music, served as judges for the competition. They appreciated the students’ singing abilities, knowledge of rhythm and stage presence.
Winners of the Inter-House Competition
After a closely contested competition, Janhavi Mukherjee of Dayanand House, Class 12 ‘F’, secured the first position with her impressive performance.
The second position was jointly secured by Abhinav Newar of Tilak House, Class 12 ‘R’, Shivam Kumar Mehta of Tagore House, Class 11 ‘D’, and Sunandana Ghosh of Tilak House, Class 12 ‘B’.
Nitya Singh of Tagore House, Class 11 ‘F’, and Srishti Prakash of Dayanand House, Class 11 ‘A’, jointly secured the third position.
Music Plays an Important Role in Holistic Education
Addressing the gathering, Principal B. N. Jha said that education is not limited to books and examinations. True education, he said, is one that ensures the balanced development of the mind, intellect and soul.
He added that music develops sensitivity, discipline and concentration among students. In an era marked by increasing stress and competition, fine arts such as music play an important role in maintaining students’ mental balance and contributing to character building.
Mr Jha said that the combination of art and education helps students become not only accomplished learners but also sensitive and responsible citizens.
Students Encouraged by School Faculty
School Programme Coordinator Sushmita Mishra and Dean of Student Welfare L. N. Patnaik were also present on the occasion and encouraged the participating students.
At the conclusion of the programme, the guests and teachers congratulated all the participants and wished them a bright and musical future.
