Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has continued the stay on the state government’s order cancelling appointments made through JSSC CGL and other examinations under Advertisement No. 10/2023.
The state government could not file its response in the matter and sought four weeks’ time to submit its reply. The court, however, said that no more than two days would be granted for filing the response.
The court observed that cancelling appointments collectively through what it described as a “Tughlaq-like order” was inappropriate.
Court Seeks Response From State Government
Senior advocate Rajiv Ranjan, appearing in the matter, said the government was seeking to delay filing its affidavit on the pretext of submitting the status report of the CID investigation.
He argued that the CID investigation and the government’s affidavit were separate matters.
The government will submit the sealed CID investigation report by 2:30 pm today, after which the court will pass a formal order. The hearing on the merits of the cases will take place on Friday at 10:30 am.
Multiple Petitions Challenging Appointment Cancellation
The matter was heard by the court of Justice Deepak Roshan on several petitions challenging the cancellation of the appointments, including petitions filed by Akash Gaurav and others and Niroj and others.
Senior advocate Rajiv Ranjan and advocates Shreya Mishra, Indrajit Sinha and Amritansh Vats, among others, appeared for the petitioners.
Advocate General Rohitashya Rai represented the state government.
State Had Announced Cancellation of 22 Examinations
According to the report, based on findings emerging from the CID investigation, the state government announced late on August 18 that all examinations in which TDPL was involved would be cancelled.
The government also announced an investigation into possible irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted since 2014.
Following these announcements, the Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha Department issued notifications relating to cancellation of examinations, suspension of examination processes and investigations.
The notification mentions the cancellation of 22 examinations, suspension of the process for six examinations, and inclusion of 17 examinations within the scope of the investigation.
