Ranchi : The name of Ranchi has once again made its presence felt in domestic cricket, with Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM), Shyamali alumnus Shikhar Mohan earning selection to the 15-member Rest of India squad for the prestigious Irani Cup.
The young batting all-rounder has impressed with his performances in domestic cricket, contributing with both the bat and ball. A left-handed batter who also bowls slow left-arm spin, Shikhar will now share the dressing room with established international players, including Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan.
Shikhar completed his Class 12 from JVM Shyamali in 2022. During the 2022–23 season, he was appointed captain of the Jharkhand Men’s Under-19 team for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
His performances across domestic competitions, including the Jharkhand Premier League, Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, East Zone and Duleep Trophy, have helped him earn recognition at the national level. His contributions with both bat and ball eventually paved the way for his selection to the Rest of India squad.
JVM Shyamali has a notable cricketing legacy and is also known as the school where former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni developed his cricketing skills.
JVM Shyamali Principal B. N. Jha congratulated Shikhar on his selection and said, “Shikhar has brought immense pride to Jharkhand. His achievement reflects the strong sporting culture of JVM Shyamali. We are confident that this is only the beginning of a promising cricketing journey.”
Senior Physical Education Teacher Dr Motilal Prasad also congratulated the young cricketer, highlighting his determination and all-round abilities. He said Shikhar’s hard work and consistent performances had helped him reach the Irani Cup level.
Following the announcement of his selection, a celebratory atmosphere prevailed on the JVM Shyamali campus. Teachers, staff and students celebrated the achievement by distributing sweets and congratulating one another.
