Ramgarh: An unusual display of devotion to Goddess Durga during Navratri has attracted attention in the Barkakana area of Ramgarh district, Jharkhand. Rupa Devi, a resident of Jhopri Tola in Pochra, is drawing devotees with her rigorous religious practice of lying on a bed made of sharp iron nails while placing a kalash (sacred pot) on her abdomen and praying to the goddess.
On Monday, devotees from nearby areas and distant places continued to arrive to witness her ritual and offer prayers. The practice has become a point of religious interest during the Navratri celebrations.
Rupa Devi Has Worshipped Goddess Durga for 12 Years
Rupa Devi’s husband, Rajesh Ram, said she has been worshipping Goddess Durga continuously for the past 12 years.
He added that for the past three years, she has been performing her Navratri ritual while seated or lying on a bed made of pointed iron nails. Her religious practice has attracted an increasing number of visitors during the festival.
Devotees Arrive From Several States
Rupa Devi’s mother-in-law, Bandani Devi, said the event has attracted devotees from beyond Jharkhand. According to her, people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha, along with other nearby areas, have been visiting the site.
Devotees have been participating in the prayers and chanting slogans in praise of Goddess Durga, creating a devotional atmosphere in the locality.
Faith and Religious Beliefs Draw Visitors
Many devotees believe that Goddess Durga listens to the prayers of her followers and fulfils wishes made with sincere devotion. Guided by this faith, people are visiting Rupa Devi to seek the goddess’s blessings.
