New Delhi: Reliance Industries’ digital and telecom subsidiary, Jio Platforms, has created history in the Indian primary market by attracting a record number of applications for its initial public offering (IPO). The ₹30,213-crore issue received nearly 1.4 crore applications, making it the first IPO globally reported to have crossed the one-crore application mark. The IPO closed on October 23, 2026, with an overall subscription of 22.19 times, according to reported market data.
The record-breaking response reflects strong investor interest in the company’s business and growth prospects. The IPO attracted bids for approximately 438 crore shares against around 19.75 crore shares on offer. Total demand across the public issue and anchor investor book was reported at approximately ₹7.4 lakh crore.
Jio IPO Attracts Strong Demand Across Investor Categories
Institutional investors led the subscription, with the qualified institutional buyers (QIB) category subscribed 70.55 times. The non-institutional investor (NII) category was subscribed 14 times, while the retail individual investor portion received subscriptions of 2.72 times.
The strong response across categories placed Jio Platforms’ public issue among the most closely watched IPOs in the Indian stock market. The ₹30,213-crore offering also became India’s largest IPO by issue size, surpassing Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 public issue.
Is a 20% Listing Gain Possible?
Potential listing gains have become a major talking point among investors. Before the IPO closed, reports indicated that the stock’s grey market premium (GMP) was hovering around 21%, suggesting expectations of a possible premium over the issue price. However, the GMP is an unofficial market indicator and does not guarantee the actual listing price or investment returns.
The eventual listing performance will depend on several factors, including market sentiment, the company’s valuation, investor demand and broader stock market conditions. Even a heavily oversubscribed IPO can experience volatility after listing.
Investors should therefore avoid treating an estimated 20% gain as assured profit. The grey market premium can fluctuate, and actual returns may be lower than expected or turn negative.
Why Is Jio Platforms Attracting Investor Attention?
Jio Platforms has built a substantial presence in India’s telecommunications and digital services market. Its extensive customer base and broader digital ecosystem have contributed to investor interest in the company’s long-term growth prospects.
The IPO gives public market investors an opportunity to participate directly in the company’s business. However, its long-term performance will depend on financial results, profitability, competition, capital requirements and the company’s ability to sustain growth.
What Happens Next for Jio IPO Investors?
With bidding now complete, investors are awaiting the allotment process and stock market debut. According to reported schedules, the allotment is expected on October 26, with the shares scheduled to list on the BSE and NSE on October 28, 2026.
The record number of applications demonstrates exceptional investor participation, but applying for an IPO and earning a profit after listing are two different things. Investors should review the company’s official offer documents, financial performance, valuation and risk disclosures before making investment decisions.
