India News : The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing for a major upgrade to the Aadhaar system to enhance security and prevent misuse. Starting December 2025, UIDAI may introduce a new Aadhaar card design that will display only a photo and a QR code, while details like name, address, date of birth, and biometric information may be removed from the physical card.

UIDAI CEO Bhuwanesh Kumar, during an online conference, said that a new system is being developed to stop the misuse of Aadhaar copies. Once implemented, individuals, hotels, telecom companies or any organization requesting Aadhaar details will not be able to misuse printed information. This will also help prevent fraud during hotel check-ins or SIM purchases.

UIDAI is also planning to launch a new mobile app, which will allow Aadhaar users to share their digital identity safely without submitting photocopies. The app will support secure verification, digital sharing of Aadhaar details, and the option to link up to five family members. It will also include a one-click biometric lock/unlock feature to ensure maximum data security.

According to early reports, the new Aadhaar card may include only the holder’s photo, QR code, and possibly the name. The QR code will be scannable only through authorized UIDAI tools or a custom app. The currently printed Aadhaar number may also be removed in the future. The existing photo-based verification method is expected to be phased out gradually.

Experts believe these changes are crucial because repeated photocopying of Aadhaar increases the risk of data theft and misuse. QR code–based verification is considered more secure, and limiting visible details on the card will significantly enhance privacy and safety.
