India News : Adani Power Limited has secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Bihar government to supply 2,400 MW of electricity, marking the state’s largest-ever private sector investment. The ₹27,000 crore ultra-supercritical greenfield thermal power project will be built in Bhagalpur.
The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process, where Adani Power offered the lowest tariff at ₹6.075 per unit—beating other major players like JSW Energy, Bajaj Energy, and Torrent Power. The power plant will utilize ultra-supercritical technology, known for higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional coal plants.
Bihar has long faced challenges in attracting large-scale investments due to unreliable power supply, policy instability, and logistical issues. This new project, however, signals a shift. With Bihar’s peak power demand reaching around 7,000 MW and its generation capacity only at 2,500 MW, this initiative could be a game-changer for industrial growth.
The project is expected to create over 12,000 jobs during construction and about 3,000 permanent positions post-launch, with spillover benefits to local SMEs, logistics, and manufacturing sectors. Adani’s previous involvement in Bihar includes grain silos under Adani Agri Logistics.
This venture is not just about power generation—it’s a milestone toward economic empowerment, industrial resurgence, and long-term development in Bihar.
