World News : A tragic road accident in Indonesia’s Central Java province has claimed at least 15 lives, while 19 others were seriously injured. The incident occurred early Monday morning near the Krapyak toll exit intersection in Semarang city, when a speeding bus lost control, crashed into a roadside barrier, and overturned.
According to local authorities, the bus was moving at a high speed when the driver suddenly lost control. The impact with the barrier was so severe that the vehicle flipped over, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage. Rescue officials said the accident happened in the early hours, making rescue operations even more challenging.
Semarang Search and Rescue Office chief Budiono said the rescue effort was extremely difficult. The bus windows had shattered, and access to the interior was blocked. Many passengers were trapped inside, forcing rescue teams to use special equipment to cut through the damaged structure. Navigating broken glass and twisted metal, the teams worked cautiously for several hours to pull out the injured.
All injured passengers have been admitted to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment. Authorities are in the process of identifying the deceased and injured, while police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The tragedy comes just days after another deadly incident in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, where a fire in a residential house killed five people. Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency chief Isnawa Adji had said the fire broke out around 8:10 pm and was brought under control after deploying 10 fire engines. Preliminary investigations suggested a possible electrical short circuit, as the house was also being used as an accessories warehouse.
The back-to-back incidents have once again raised serious concerns over road safety and fire safety standards in Indonesia, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and preventive measures.
