India News : Marriage trends in India are undergoing a significant shift. Over the past decade, the average age of marriage among unmarried individuals has increased from 27 to 29 years, while the number of people interested in a second marriage has risen by 43%, according to a recent study.
📊 Analysis of Trends (2016–2025)
The report analyzed user behavior and trends between 2016 and 2025, along with survey data collected in 2026 from more than 30,000 active users. It found that the average age at which people begin searching for a life partner has now reached 29 years, with 50% of users starting the process at this age.
Experts suggest that factors such as financial stability, career growth, and personal readiness for marriage are key reasons behind this shift.
💍 Growing Acceptance of Second Marriages
The study also highlights a notable rise in the acceptance of remarriage:
-
In 2016, about 11% of users were seeking a second marriage.
-
By 2025, this figure had increased to 16%, marking a 43% growth over a decade.
Interestingly, 15% of users who have never been married are now open to profiles of divorced individuals, indicating a gradual decline in the stigma traditionally associated with divorce.
🔻 Decline in Caste as a Strict Criterion
Another major change noted in the report is the reduced emphasis on caste in marriage decisions.
-
In 2016, 91% of users considered caste a non-negotiable criterion.
-
By 2025, this number had dropped sharply to 54%.
This trend reflects a broader shift toward prioritizing compatibility, shared values, and mutual understanding over traditional social boundaries.
👉 Overall, the findings suggest that attitudes toward marriage in India are becoming more practical, inclusive, and progressive, especially among younger generations.
