Chatra: A nearly three-kilometre-long road in Badhai Tola of Marmadiri village under Lemh Panchayat in Chatra Sadar block has fallen into a severely dilapidated condition. The road is riddled with large potholes at several places, making even walking difficult for local residents.
According to villagers, the poor condition of the road forced them to collect donations and arrange repairs twice. They filled the potholes with soil, moram and other materials to make the road temporarily usable.
Villagers Collected Donations Twice for Repairs
Residents said that rainfall and the continuous movement of vehicles damaged the road again within a short period. The nearly three-kilometre stretch is now once again dotted with potholes.
Villagers said that the responsibility for road construction and maintenance lies with the government and the concerned department. Despite this, they have repeatedly been forced to spend money from their own pockets to make the road usable.
Patients, Elderly and Schoolchildren Face Major Difficulties
The damaged road has affected patients, elderly residents, schoolchildren and two-wheeler riders the most. During the rainy season, water fills the potholes, making it difficult to judge their depth.
This has also increased the risk of accidents. Residents said daily travel has become increasingly difficult for people living in the area.
Demand for Permanent Road Construction
Villagers have questioned how long they will have to collect donations to keep a government road in usable condition. They said the road requires permanent construction and strengthening.
The residents have urged the administration and public representatives to take immediate notice of the matter. They have demanded permanent construction and strengthening of the nearly three-kilometre-long road to ease commuting difficulties and reduce the risk of accidents.
