Cold Wave and Dense Fog Hit Jharkhand, Yellow Alert Issued

Severe Cold Grips Jharkhand, Fog and Cold Wave Alert in 14 Districts

Jharkhand News : With the arrival of December, the cold has started making its presence felt in Jharkhand and several other parts of the country. Dense fog and cold waves in the morning are causing discomfort to people. The Meteorological Department has issued yellow alerts and dense fog warnings for several districts in the state.

According to the IMD, as of Monday at 8:30 AM, a yellow alert for cold has been issued for Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, and Lohardaga. Meanwhile, dense fog warnings have been issued for 15 districts, including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Khunti.

The weather bulletin reports that six districts—Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, and Ranchi—recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C. Ranchi recorded a minimum of 9.1°C, Kanke recorded 6.2°C, and Lohardaga recorded 7.7°C.

The dense fog forms when moist air collides with cold surfaces due to western disturbances. Dust particles and pollution can also contribute, reducing visibility and lowering temperatures even during the daytime. Due to the dense fog, several train and bus services have been delayed.

The Meteorological Department has warned that this cold wave and dense fog situation is expected to continue until December 22. Citizens have been advised to take precautions.
