Cold Wave Tightens Grip in Jharkhand, Dense Fog Likely This Week: IMD

Jharkhand News : Jharkhand is experiencing an intense spell of cold weather as chilly winds and dense fog continue to affect daily life across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold conditions are expected to persist for the next one week with only minor fluctuations in temperature.

On Friday, fog remained dominant even during daytime hours in several districts, reducing sunlight and leading to a further drop in maximum temperatures. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 22.6°C, down by one degree from the previous day, while the minimum temperature stood at 8.3°C.

Cold conditions were more severe in higher-altitude regions. Kanke recorded a minimum temperature as low as 3.0°C, while McCluskieganj saw the mercury drop to 5°C in the early morning. Fog has caused a decline of 1–2 degrees in daytime temperatures across most districts of the state.

IMD officials stated that weather conditions will remain largely clear over the coming week, with no major system expected to impact the region. However, minimum temperatures are likely to hover between 4°C and 10°C till December 18, keeping cold wave conditions active in several areas.

Meteorological scientist Abhishek Anand said that cold winds will continue to blow across Jharkhand, with fog intensity increasing, especially in northern and Santhal regions. Though temperatures may see slight variations, overall cold conditions will prevail.

Residents have been advised to take precautions, particularly during early morning hours when visibility may be significantly reduced due to fog.
