Jharkhand News : The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has made a significant breakthrough in a nearly decade-old demonetisation-related fraud case by arresting a Bank of India branch manager from Jharkhand’s Koderma district.
The accused, Arvind Kumar, was arrested on Friday from the Bank of India’s Phulwaria branch in Domchanch block, where he was serving as the branch manager. He is a resident of Panchvati Nagar, Bibiganj, Danapur, Patna, and was wanted in connection with the case. An arrest warrant had been issued against him by a vigilance court in Patna.
Alleged ₹2 Crore Fraudulent Transactions
According to investigators, during the 2016 demonetisation period, Arvind Kumar was posted at the Bank of India’s Gaya Main Branch. He is accused of conspiring with other individuals to carry out fraudulent and unauthorized transactions worth nearly ₹2 crore from the bank account of complainant Rajesh Kumar without the account holder’s knowledge or consent.
Following the discovery of the alleged fraud, Rajesh Kumar lodged an FIR at the Civil Lines Police Station in Gaya.
Investigation Handed Over to EOU
Given the seriousness of the allegations, the investigation was transferred to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU). During the probe, investigators examined several financial records and transaction documents, which allegedly revealed Arvind Kumar’s involvement in the case.
After gathering evidence, the EOU obtained an arrest warrant from the vigilance court and subsequently arrested the accused from his workplace in Koderma.
Further Investigation Underway
EOU officials said that charge sheets have already been filed against four accused persons in connection with the case. Following his arrest, Arvind Kumar is being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
The agency described the arrest of a long-absconding accused in the nearly ten-year-old case as a major achievement and said that further legal proceedings are continuing.
