Jharkhand News : A major tragedy has struck Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district once again. In the Baghmara police station area, near Block-2 in Jamunia, a mine collapsed during illegal mining operations, resulting in the death of nine workers. The incident occurred late last night and has created panic in the surrounding region. Rescue and relief operations have been launched, though more workers are feared to be trapped under the debris. The identities of the deceased have not been confirmed yet.

Former minister and MLA Saryu Rai has expressed serious concerns over the incident. Posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he alleged that the illegal mining mafia is trying to hide the bodies of the victims. He further claimed that a person named ChunChun is actively involved in these unlawful mining activities and enjoys protection from influential individuals. Saryu Rai stated that he has shared all relevant information with the Dhanbad SSP.
Locals have long complained that illegal mining has been flourishing in Baghmara and nearby areas for years. A strong network of mining mafias is said to be operating in the region, reportedly with either the silence or the complicity of the local administration.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Just a few weeks ago, another illegal mining accident in the same area led to the deaths of four workers. The repeated nature of these incidents not only exposes the dangers of unregulated mining but also raises serious questions about the effectiveness and willpower of the administration to act against such practices.
Residents are demanding a high-level and impartial investigation into the matter, along with stringent action against those responsible. They are also calling for a complete crackdown on illegal mining to prevent further loss of lives.
