Jharkhand News : A major incident was reported on the road connecting Dhanbad and Ranchi on Wednesday morning, when a portion of the road suddenly caved in by nearly 2 feet near Kenduadih police station around 8 AM. The incident triggered panic among locals in the area.
Cracks were also noticed at multiple spots around the affected stretch, raising concerns about a possible major accident. Acting swiftly, the police barricaded both sides of the road and closed the main route. Traffic is currently being diverted through a nearby link road, and commuters have been advised to remain cautious.
According to Kenduadih police station in-charge Pramod Pandey, the matter has been reported to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and the district administration. Authorities are considering permanently closing the affected road as a safety measure.
Following the incident, teams from BCCL and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reached the spot and secured the area with barricades to prevent any untoward incident.
Local residents, along with Ward No. 12 representative Krishna Raut, have alleged that BCCL is deliberately trying to displace people from the area. They claim that while residents are willing to relocate, their demands are not being met.
Residents including Monu Pathak, Shailesh Pandey, Ram Avatar Singh, and Birendra Turi stated that the road has sunk between 1.5 to 2 feet, completely disrupting movement in the area.
Notably, this region has been facing toxic gas leakage for several months, which has already led to multiple fatalities. The latest road collapse has further intensified fear and concern among residents.
