Elephant Attack in Goilkera Kills Father and Two Children

Jharkhand News : A tragic incident of human–wildlife conflict has shaken Goilkera block, where a wild elephant killed three members of a single family late on Monday night. The victims included a father and his two minor children, while another child sustained serious injuries. The incident has triggered fear and anger among local residents.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 10:30 pm when a tusker entered a populated area in Goilkera and suddenly attacked a family. Kundra Bahadan died on the spot, while his son Kodma Bahadan and daughter Samu Bahadan also succumbed to their injuries. Another daughter, Jingin Bahadan, was critically injured in the attack.

The injured child was initially given first aid and later referred to Rourkela for advanced treatment. Doctors have reported severe head injuries, and her condition remains critical.

🌳 Forest Department Response

Upon receiving information, teams from the Jharkhand Forest Department reached the site and assessed the situation. Immediate relief of ₹20,000 was provided to the bereaved family, and official procedures were completed.

However, villagers have expressed strong dissatisfaction, calling the compensation inadequate and demanding permanent measures to prevent recurring elephant attacks.

⚠️ Rising Human–Elephant Conflict

Local residents said elephant herds have been active in Goilkera and surrounding areas for several days. So far, 13 people have lost their lives due to elephant attacks in the region, including six deaths in Goilkera block alone.

The repeated incidents have created panic among villagers, many of whom fear stepping out of their homes after dark. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen elephant monitoring, improve early-warning alert systems, and deploy adequate security measures in affected villages.
