ESL Steel Expands Education and Skilling Initiatives Across Jharkhand

Bokaro : On International Literacy Day, ESL Steel Limited highlighted its continued efforts to strengthen education, digital learning, early childhood development, scholarships and skill development opportunities for communities across Jharkhand.

The company said its initiatives are aimed at improving learning outcomes, supporting students and enhancing employability, particularly among children and youth in rural and remote areas.

ESL Steel Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Iron & Steel Limited (VISL), shared details of its programmes in line with this year’s International Literacy Day theme, “Literacy for People, Prosperity and Planet.”

Project Shiksha Reaches 598 Students

Under its key education initiative, Project Shiksha, ESL reached 598 students through six Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) in Jharkhand during FY 2025-26.

The programme reported encouraging academic results, with 100% of participating students clearing the Class 10 board examination. Of these students, 77.5% secured first division.

The initiative focuses on supporting students and strengthening their learning outcomes while helping them pursue their academic aspirations.

Focus on Early Childhood and Digital Learning

ESL also continued its work in early childhood care and education through its Nand Ghar centres. During FY 2025-26, the initiative benefited 737 children.

Since its inception, ESL has supported and maintained 150 Nand Ghars across Jharkhand. Currently, 12 Nand Ghar centres are being monitored to ensure quality early childhood learning and development outcomes.

The company’s education initiatives also extend to digital learning through Vedanta AAS Vidyalaya. The programme has reached more than 1,700 students in Jharkhand since its inception and benefited over 1,100 students during FY 2025-26.

Vedanta AAS Vidyalaya has maintained a 100% board examination pass rate, helping students access a stronger and more supportive learning environment.

VESS Supports 841 Youth in Jharkhand

Recognising the importance of linking education and literacy with meaningful livelihood opportunities, ESL has also invested in youth skill development.

Through the Vedanta ESL Skill School (VESS), the company has supported 841 youth in Jharkhand since its inception. The initiative focuses on providing industry-relevant skills and helping bridge the gap between aspirations and employability.

Through its education, digital learning and skill development programmes, ESL continues to work with communities in Jharkhand to support children and young people in pursuing their academic and career aspirations.
