India News : The first solar eclipse of the year will occur on February 17. This will be an annular solar eclipse, a rare phenomenon in which the Sun appears like a bright ring in the sky. Scientists popularly call this spectacular sight the “Ring of Fire.”
⏰ Solar Eclipse Timings
The annular solar eclipse will last from:
-
3:26 PM to
-
7:57 PM
Astronomers say that during this eclipse, the Moon will cover nearly 96% of the Sun, leaving a glowing circular edge visible around it.
🌞 What is an Annular Solar Eclipse?
An annular (ring-shaped) solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes directly between the Earth and the Sun but appears slightly smaller in size, so it does not completely cover the Sun. As a result, the Sun’s outer edge remains visible as a bright ring, creating the dramatic “Ring of Fire” effect.
🇮🇳 Will it be Visible in India?
No. The February 17 solar eclipse will not be visible in India.
🌍 Where Will It Be Visible?
The eclipse will be visible in parts of Canada, Greenland, Iceland, northeastern Russia, northern Spain, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, among other regions.
📅 Total Solar Eclipses in 2026

🔔 Sutak Period Beliefs
According to religious beliefs:
-
The Sutak period begins 12 hours before a solar eclipse.
-
During this time, auspicious activities, worship, touching idols, and eating food are traditionally avoided.
✨ Rare Panchgrahi Yoga on February 17
A rare celestial alignment (Panchgrahi Yoga) is also forming on the day of the eclipse. On February 17, five celestial bodies — Sun, Rahu, Mercury, Venus, and the Moon — will align in Aquarius (Kumbh Rashi).
Astrologers say this rare combination is forming after nearly 37 years. The last time such an alignment occurred was in 1989, making it astrologically significant.
Although this solar eclipse carries major astronomical and astrological importance, people in India will not be able to witness it directly, as it will not be visible from the region.
