World News : In a story that redefines the bond between humans and animals, German man Christian Kollis has spent over 30 years living with a female crocodile named Frau Meier — whom he affectionately calls his “big sister.” Their extraordinary relationship began when Christian was just two years old.
According to media reports, Christian’s father, who worked in a circus, brought home the crocodile decades ago. Instead of growing up with toys, young Christian grew up playing with Frau Meier, talking to her, and even doing his homework beside her. To him, she was never “just a pet” — she was a gentle-hearted companion and family member.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Christian performed in circus acts with Frau Meier for nearly 30 years. The duo shared the stage, amazing audiences with their unusual connection. Now both retired, their life has slowed down but their bond remains as strong as ever.
Frau Meier now lives in a specially designed pool near Christian’s home, complete with thermal lighting to keep her warm. Measuring 8.2 feet in length and weighing nearly 100 kilograms, she enjoys a simple but carefully planned diet — eating only once a week. Her meals include chicken legs, beef, fish, and occasionally rats.
Despite being a powerful reptile, Frau Meier is remarkably calm around Christian. He often swims with her in the pool, and they are frequently seen sunbathing together. Christian firmly believes she understands his moods and intentions, a trust built over decades of companionship.
This human-animal relationship is an extraordinary example of mutual respect, patience, and emotional connection. It challenges the way people perceive crocodiles — often seen as dangerous and untamable — and shows that trust can be developed even with nature’s fiercest creatures.
While such relationships are rare and require deep knowledge and care, Christian’s story stands as a testament to what can happen when humans treat animals with love and consistency. Frau Meier may be a crocodile by nature, but for Christian, she will always be his family.
